I cannot believe it’s been over a month since I’ve written anything!!! I’ve gotten back into the swing of things at work, but right before I was heading back from my treatment, they announced a reorganization at my company. I’m now based out of Miami (instead of Tampa) and the details are still being worked out, but have been told to “keep doing what you’re doing,” so I’m doing exactly that.

I saw my doctor 5/8 and she said I was progressing well, and didn’t have to come see her in a month – which was today. At today’s appointment, my WBC are up to 6.4 – S-I-X. I couldn’t believe my eyes and was elated to see that. The chemo, week in the hospital, stress and everything else is coming together to get me back to 100%. I was asked if I feel better than pre-chemo, which I still am working to “keep up” when running around jobsites at work, but feel I’m about 90% back to my old self. Starting to work on getting 30-40 min of exercise a day to build my stamina back up and should be there soon enough.

I did develop an allergy to Bactrim about 7-weeks after I had started taking it (in conjunction with starting chemo). Unfortunately, the Benedryl was not enough to combat the terrible itch I had on Monday, which stopped Tuesday (since it was to be taken Mon/Weds/Fri) and started back up when I took it Wednesday morning, so the doctor said to come off of it. I’m still on the Acyclovir and B12, and added Vitamin C to my morning ritual. I asked the doctor, before she said I could go off of it, if there was something stronger than Benedryl I could take to stop the itching, or if they can switch me to another antibiodic (Cipro maybe?), but she said to stop them and didn’t offer a replacement. Weird how your body could be fine with something at first, and then give symptoms later on, but I’ve been assured this happens and is not “out of the norm.”

This year thus far has been a roller coaster, and part of my lack of writing lately has been due to my best friend getting married, and whom I had the honor to officiate at her wedding. We had a bridal shower, Key West for a bachelor/bachelorette party, Memorial Day with our family coming down, so it’s been a busy May and early-June. Things don’t slow down a bit this week, as my husband’s parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, and my anniversary with my husband of 10 years is on Friday. We are flying to NYC to celebrate – he’s never been and I’ve only been once. I am looking forward to getting away, especially with a little less worry and anxiousness in the back of my mind with my bloodwork continuing to go up.

  1. I am so in awe of you. The way you have handled this minor set back and are coming back with both barrels blazing. We are happy that your body is responding to the treatment and that you are on the road to total recovery.
Congratulations on your tenth wedding anniversary. I can’t believe it’s been that long. We wish you a wonderful time in NYC and have many many more years of happiness together.
We love you and will continue to keep you in prayer.
    God Bless.
